ACTS’ second study abroad trip provided an unparalleled opportunity to understand the journey through Christ’s time on Earth, particularly His Passion in Jerusalem. The trip took students around the Holy City, visiting sites such as the Upper Room, where the disciples first received the Holy Spirit, Golgotha, where the Lord was crucified, and the Holy Sepulcher, the site of Christ’s Resurrection and, thus, the salvation of Humankind. The group also walked the path of Via Dolorosa, the route that Christ walked carrying His cross to Golgotha, even visiting the site where he fell and received the aid of Simon on the way to the cross.
These visits provided the class not only with the opportunity to witness some of the most important locations cited in the Bible, but also share important moments of prayer in solidarity at these historic monuments, with each other and with fellow pilgrims to the sites from all over the world, including praying the Liturgy at the Tomb of Christ on Pentecost. Through the spiritual direction of His Grace Bishop Kyrillos and Father Daniel Azer, the group was guided in getting the most out of their biblical studies throughout the trip, particularly in the context of the trip. According to one student, “it was like having the Bible open in front of you.”
